Switch between audio components?

Hello. I am interested in upgrading my low-frequency range with a subwoofer and am trying to figure out exactly what I want to do before I purchase anything. One question I have is that is there a way I could use a switch to swap between my new subwoofers and my stock speakers. Reason being is that my girlfriend is not too fond of a low-response speaker upgrade and wants me to use stocks with her in the car, but I drive alone quite often and would like the bass to be there. Has anyone attempted/accomplished this feat? Thank you in advance!

Either you can get a headunit with a on/off switch for subwoofer or you can get an amp that has a gain knob and just put it down all the way when your girl gets in the car. The sub will still technically play with the gain knob but it's practically nonexistant when you have it all the way down. She won't even notice it's there.

My subs are still extremely noticeable when then bass knob is all way down...

OP, yes you can add a cut off switch for the amp. Just pick up a toggle switch and run your remote wire from the HU to the switch and then from the switch to the amp. I did that in my truck for the exact same reason as you lol.

Get a new GF. It ain't gunna work out. Lmao
lmfaooo that was what i was thinking

Your sub woofer attenuation doesnt go down low enough? Get something that can go down to -24db to -48 db

I have no idea. But I like having the on/off switch because why have the amp powered on if I don't wanna use it? Plus I like being able to cut the bass at the flip of a switch, just a lot easier for me.

not gonna work. You either run the aftermarket sub or the stock sub, dont have two of them running. My girl hates bass but she enjoys the SQ setting very much.

With a good enough attenuation and some time alignment, it'll feel like your door speakers are playing the bass and it'll just sound nice, not overpowering, very SQ-ish. Bass feels like its on the dashboard along with all the instruments and vocals instead of behind you.

I know they do it all the time for home audio, so could I not install a basic A B selector switch like this one (Product Details for PID 8231) and run it the same? And I guess I could run it on low, but as stated before, it would still hit the lower notes. Turning it down doesn't change the fact that it is a subwoofer.

You don't gotta buy an A/B selector just for that. Plus it takes up more space and that's kinda expensive too. You could just do what DaytonLax did and just have a switch somewhere up front. It'll just simply turn off your amp. I just feel it's too much work just so you can be bassless when your girl is in the car. My girl hates bass too but I never had a problem with the gain knob all the way down. You can barely even hear it.. There was even more bass coming from my speakers than my subs. It's not overpowering at all. Besides, it's hard to bring out the low notes with such little power going to it. What audio equipment are you looking to buy anyway? Are you planning to buy an aftermarket headunit or go with factory radio? If you're gonna buy a new headunit, I highly suggest you find one with a subwoofer on/off switch. It would be an easy solution. Many of the alpine HU i've seen had an on/off switch built into it. Not all of them have it though. I mean.. you drive alone most of the time right? I just don't see the point..

I'm just trying to find the best choice. I don't want to go completely without sound in the rear if the vehicle, but I don't want it to be overpowering with my gf in the car. I'm wanting to put something like that in the front of my car for a very simple switch between speakers. And I could possibly connect it to my amplifier. I didn't think about the specifics. As I've said several times, I'm new to this stuff and am trying to find a basic setup to do what I desire. And I am looking into a basic single 12" sub w/ a 600W amplifier. My problem is that I don't want them on all the time and want a way to turn them off if need be. If there is no realistic way for it to work, I'll try to do something else. But if there is a possibility, I would like to take that chance.

Also, I already have an aftermarket radio. I have it installed already. I do not know if it has a power button for the subs, as I have never had to use that function. (As I haven't had subs). But I got to scrolling through the settings to see what I coul do today and it has a subwoofer function, but all I know about it is that I can change the frequency level it is focusing on. It also has a function where it says it can go from "0" to "-24" and another that switches between "0", "-6" and "-12".

The menu functions in your HU setup should either have an on/off function or a level setting; that -24 is probably low enough that you won't hear the sub much at all. If that fails, then you can add a switch somewhere to disable the amplifier's remote turn on when you don't want the sub playing.
