Supreme Court decision

Then complain to that store in particular, because it isn't like that everywhere. There are multiple places in my area to pick up new releases for $12.99-$13.99. The problem is the stores in your area; not the industry.
The only place that i have found is best buy but that is the only store around here that does, sam good, wherehouse, etc. all sell them for a much higher price.

I was simply pointing out you can pick up CD's for less than $10, and not everyone buys strictly new CD's. Most of the CD's I buy are not new releases.

I wasnt saying that everyone just buys new cd's but newer cd's do sell more than older ones

My point still stands.
But do you agree that there are many artists and movies that do really well?

I never said they don't make money still.

Just the same; you would still get thrown in jail if you robbed Bill Gates for $1,000,000....it doesn't matter that he has another 49.9 billion in the bank, making what you stole "insignificant"

Just because they still make money doesn't mean it isn't "wrong" (or however you want to label it) to take a portion of it away from them via P2P networks.

So it's not wrong because the people are still making money? Sure, it's only a few tens of millions of dollars per year.....who cares, right? It's not money coming out of your pocket, that's the important thing. From now till the end of your life, why don't you work 40hrs per week but only take pay for 38hrs, and see how much money you'll lose over a lifetime (including opportunity costs like lost interest, lost investments, etc etc). But, it's only 2hrs per week.......it isn't important, right?
i think this is a great point but i also think that an artist knows he/she only has to do 1 good song to sell an album...it seems to me that since napster alot of artist have been doing alot more good music per album..look at linkin park that last album every song was good..now go back before all the p2p you were lucky to like 2 of the 18 songs you paid 15.99 for.

Now for everyone who doesn't know this, squeak9798 is put for a job at RIAA if you cant tell. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Just joking... but I see both sides of the story.

haha

There is several sites I go to. The artists give songs to get promotion for thir new cd. That is still legal so I dont care about the decision. I quit illegally downloading when kaaza kepy giving me viruses that I would have to clean up. Nut I agree the artists make so much money that I dont care if they lose a few dollars

Fvck...I wish. I bet they'd pay me a heck of a lot more than I make now.......

I agree that essentially 'stealing' music does hurt the industry and all the peripherals that go along with it to a degree. But the industry at large is pricing itself into a slowly-approaching oblivion if things don't change to a fairly drastic degree. Something akin to my belief that free-agency is proving very detrimental to professional sports slowly but surely.

However, not every area has a Best Buy handy to get those new releases for $12.99~$14.99 the day they come out. And aside from pricing concerns what about rural areas whose only real outlet for new music is their local Wal-Mart? I absolutely refuse to buy music from Wal-Mart anymore as all they carry are the edited versions of those artists that they will still, in fact, carry. I am old enough to decide for myself what I can/can't or should/shouldn't listen to and I'm responsible enough to make those same decisions for the kids - I don't need the largest retailer on the planet making those decisions for me.

The music industry isn't doing anything to particularly endear itself to the average consumer and I certainly have no difficulties seeing how the various P2P networks have become so widespread. Napster eventually lost it's fight. How many completely free networks have sprung up to take up where Napster left off? Kazaa, WinMX, BearShare, the list goes on and on.

Regardless of the individual's feelings about file sharing it isn't going to go away anytime in the foreseeable future, I wouldn't think. Good or bad, right or wrong, human nature dictates that if there's a way to cheat easily accessible then that road will be taken by more than a few. Just an inescapable fact of life.
