Pretty excited. The addition of underhung and XBL^2 motors along with rubber surrounds has certainly caught my attention.

why the excitement about rubber surrounds?

Strictly a reliability/longevity concern. I've just had way too many foam surrounds give up the ghost if subjected to too much excursion abuse. Some of the thicker/stiffer foam surrounds have a sound to them as well. That big stiff ring of foam, if you tap on it, makes its own sound. I don't care for that. I also don't care for the way that stiff surround forces a higher Fs. True rubber is usually very dead and offers a nice amount of damping for any cone ringing, or modes that set up in the cone for various reasons. The downside is that some of the best sounding rubber surrounds will change the driver parameters a bit with big swings in temperature. Foam and santoprene aren't affected as much by that.
Pros and cons either way, I just like rubber better for my applications. I tend to stroke the living shit out of my drivers rather than subjecting them to high levels of thermal abuse so rubber is a good way to go in that respect.
