Sundown SAX100.4 vs Alpine PDX150.4

If you need flexible crossovers the SAX-100.4 is the way to go, it is pretty underrated and will do at least 15% over it's ratings as well. Audible difference in power is likely none despite different ratings.

If you don't need the crossovers then the next question is this - what sort of warranty do you get on the Alpine vs. the SAX-100.4 from your authorized Canadian dealer, and, is warranty important to your decisions?

Size is also a factor - the SAX-100.4 is by no means small, the size is the top selling factor for the PDX unit.

Hey sorry I forgot about this thread.
I got a 4.150 from a forum member and thus far I love it! I have only had it in the car for a few days but I had it set up in my computer room before that.

I can not beleive how freaking small this amp is. It is incredible. And it sounds amazing. I now share the feelings with the other people who have reviewed this amp... it is amazing how much sound they got out of this tiny package. The life it brings to my Memphis PR's and M-Class speakers is insane... I can't wait to get some good speakers on this thing!

The biggest thing I have noticed is its control over the speakers. I can take any song that on previous installs would have muddied up my speakers and lost clarity where now I can hear everything crystal clear even cranked all the way up.

I love it and it was a great first purchase on the forums =D

I finally installed mine last Friday too. it is really nice. I got mine on some pioneer 3 ways and some alpine 6x9s and it does sound great. I like you am looking to upgrade the front speakers. So many choices. I had some PG RSDs, but I gave them to my little brother before I used them. He blew one of his mids in his car and I was nowhere near ready for my install.

iF u're goin to upgrade MLK later //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif get the 4.150 since u can bridge them to 300w x 2 if i'm not wrong //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif pdx still very good amp for the price and size.

My friend recently installed a 4.150 in his truck and It sounds great...

My question is how much difference is there between the 4.150 and the 4.100?

I have seen some 4.100's that rate at 125+ watts on the birthsheet. So, is there going to be much if any noticeable difference between these two amps.

my guess the only difference is the warrenty. you cant beat jacobs on call service. i PM that guy atleast 3 times a month and he gets back to be, its almost crazy. try doing that with alpine....

Probably not other than price. I think mine is rated at like 162 per channel. I say if the price of both is within a reasonable amount, get the 4.150. I think online it's like a 100 dollar difference between the two.

Don't get me wrong I am sure the sundown is a great amp (never tried one but the canadian delear here, cant remember there name atm, is 10 hour drive away but offered me a great deal on one) but availibility and size were a big thing. In then end I ended up buying from a user on here so no warranty for me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I can find lots of Alpine delears near me (and get excellent service from them locally) and the size of this amp can not be beaten! I will post pics of my install when I upload them it is insane!

Also I have the Alpine CDA-9887 HU so I have more then enough crossover control right there.

That was kinda my plan //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I am going to try the MLK's (if I get them) off 150wrms and then bridge ti and try it. If I like it a lot more on 300wrms (or decide to go active) then I will buy another PDX2.150 for my rears. They stack so nice so added the second one will be easy!

My Alpine's birthsheet is 161w but I think you would be hard pressed to hear a difference between 125 and 160wrms. It would all depend on the speakers. I know I can hear a difference between 75wrms and 150wrms on my Memphis M-Class but not so much on my PR's. I also know MLK's sound like *** with 75-100wrms but sound aweseom at 150... so...

My Comps, DLS Up6i, are rated for 150 watts RMS and I have heard many times that the more power the better with them. right now they are getting around 65-75 watts so its a decent jump with the 4.100 to around 125... I know the speakers can handle much more but the 4.150 is around $100 more than the 4.100 and I just dont know if there would be $100 worth of difference!?

you can always bridge the 4.100 ^^

This thread is too long to read. But, I'd have to say either can do the job quite nicely. The PDX-series amps are our top sellers, at work, for people who do their cars right. Sure, we get plenty of kids wanting to 'bump' that pick up JBL shit, and drop it in the trunk. But for every one of my customers that's looking to do it right, I either set them up with PDX stuff, or JL full-range with a TMA monoblock. I work at Car Toys, so Sundown isn't an option, but it's one of my personal favorite amps.

Has anyone seen any "guts" pics of the 4.100?

I have seen Ampguts pics of the 4.150 and 2.150 (which use the same board but the 2.150 has one less transformer and one less capacitor.) I was just wondering what the inside of the 4.100 was like?
