Sundown SAX100.4 vs Alpine PDX150.4

it really depends on what you're using the amps for. Personally i'd go with the sundown because of the fact that I can run active off the amp. Which is a big plus for me. However, the Alpine is one of the more powerful amp for the size.
Just don't buy the JL HD, just because i don't like JL and fanboys are too quick to say that JL's HD is better than Alpine's PDX
Just for that, Id say get the JL HD.

Cool.

I also found one within Canada for $385 CND shipped... not bad.

So here are my options...

Alpine PDX150.4 for ~$400 shipped

Alpine PDX100.4 for $313 shipped

Sundown SAX100.4 for $385 CDN shipped

PDX150.4 would be a single amp install for all 4 speakers getting HSK165's for the front and then eventually (maybe) getting MLK165's for the front and putting the HSK's in the rears.

PDX100.4 & Sundown SAX100.4 would be on all 4 of my memphis and then when I get the Hertz ill bridge it and put it on the hertz leaving the rears on HU or off. Then when I get MLK's ill pick up a second amp and run the HSK's in teh rear and the MLK's up front.

Thought's? I am leaning towards the PDX100.4 as its the cheapest and will be easiest to install and give me the most flexibility I think (although the 150.4 would give the same just more money for more headroom I may or may not use)

One thing about car audio is always get more than you need at the time, because you will usually need it later.....
Saves money in the long run.
Yeah I usually treat most of my hobbies that way... but the question is will I ever need to bridge teh 150.4 into 300x2? or will 200x2 be enough for most anything ill do (assuming I wont do active) and give me the flexibility of adding a second one for 200x4...

150x4 and 200x4 is *almost* the same...150w is probably all you'll need for all but the highest of the highest end comps..
So I should just get the PDX150.4 and be done with it?

Define highest end comps? 3 ways with 8's?

I would, theres not a whole lot of difference you will hear between 150-200w. Basically the arent many comps that wont be good off 150w rms, and if they dont, they'll probably cost 500+ easily.

I recommend the 4.150 because it wont leave you wishing for more, unless you get 2 4.150's.......!

maybe its just me but he did say he was going to power 4 Memphis PR coaxs....to me both amps are too much power for those speakers.

I put 100rms to my PR comps and they didnt like that too much.

edit: just read where you said you plan to upgrade

The gain on the amp is there so you dont have to run full power at all times //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Yeah I just had to get something in my car cause stock was driving me crazy. So I got the memphis PR's for $50 a peice and ive had memphis in the past and have loved them and wired up my Alpine 9887 HU. So now I have a stereo that is much better then stock... so I am focusing on the install now.

I had a 75x4 PG on them and they took that no problem. 100 might be ok but 150 ill definitly have to turn down the gain a bit.

yeaI found that on my components that 75 was good, but 100 was pushing it.... but as far as the question I would go with the PDX150.4 just for the upgraded power, size

but you cant go wrong either way you go

Ok the MLK165's would run fine off 150wrms then? (cause that is a possible upgrade route)

I guess I can always bridge it even though 300wrms woudl be overkill but have more is better then not having enough.

So I am getting the PDX150.4 unless anyone can come in and give a good reason not to.

about the pdxs if read and heard they tend to run hot and they lack dynamic headroom.

There is no need for rear fill at all if your going for sq only if your all about spl

whats your goals? Sq-imaging soundstage reproducing the real thing

or how loud it gets.

Id say save for the a 2way set up you really want and have researched alot about get the amp to match the power. your better off doing it right the first time youll end up spending more if you dont.

some comps to look at hybrid audio legatia ,seas lotus dyn esotar numeous raw drivers if going active
