Sundown SA 18s

I never once said anything about efficiency. I'm talking about handling heat better. And in the burp vids of te SA 18 isn't Jacob throwing 8k at one for a 157 or whatever? Is 8k efficient?
I as the one mentioning efficiency. you came back with some unrelated nonsense about heat.

if hes throwing 8k at a 2.5" coil driver, and its taking it... it would again, seem your thoughts on heat are irrelevant to the discussion, no?

The 9500 series can take quite a bit of power too, but again, it's only rated at 1500 RMS. Not too surprised gains weren't significant.
I have no doubt on music / long term at higher power the 9500 would be louder over time, naturally //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I was surprised it didn't gain much more on the burp, though, considering the huge motor force advantage of the SC motor. I believe if we had even *more* power the 9500 would have pulled away more -- the SA-18 was totally out of stroke (coil is 45mm long).

hey J, do you think your SA 18s are hairtrick worthy? standard ported box under the window line? I just might go with SA 18s. I do wonder though if they will get me in the 150 club. im stuck at 145.3 on 4 15s in a 99 Tahoe with 2400 rms. 145.3 on music that is, never tried it on test tones. 150+ on music is my goal! and im confident 4 SA 18s will accomplish that

Not sure why the fixation on the coil size... the mass / motor force / stiffness ratio works out very well that way.
The SA-18 has a bigger motor than the other sizes & a larger diameter spider.

As far as it's capability... I have done some pretty hard testing on it for SPL purposes :

Got up to 154.1 dB on the dash & a full 158.0 dB in the kick USACI style -- 8,000+ watts for a burp anyway //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Long-term music power handling is just as much as the SA-12s -- people run quite a bit on those with no issues. Coil size is not the end-all specification for thermal performance... I made some protos a few years back which were basically an SA motor with 3" copper bifilar coils but ran a different basket (the "Hi-X" basket we offered on Z v.3 12s for a while) without our vent ring (open basket windows) -- head to head it handled substantially less power than a stock SA-12 with 2.5" coil.

it was my first ported box I ever built, 4 cvr 15s its tuned at 31hz and it could do small hairtricks but I want decent hairtricks like where the girls hair looks like medusa lol

If u can't do a hair trick with 4 15s u prly won't do one with 4 18s lol I had 4 dc lvl 4 18s on a dual 580watt amp and could do hair tricks. So I'm guessing ur 4 15 box needs work

You can get that out of the cargo area but you won't have anything above 40hz unless you have monster subs and power.
