Sundown SA-15 questions..

After seeing all the talk about Sundown, I have a couple questions.

Do they work well in a sealed box? That's what I have now and wondering if it would be worth to upgrade to them from my CVRs. I would probably be keeping this system for a while so wondering if it would be a noticeable difference (Staying with my 1500 watt amp). My box is 5ft³ and it says for them to be 2.5 per. I'll eventually trade my car in later on in the year for something bigger and eventually go ported with more power.

Also I did a google search on specs and came across this.

Sealed @ 2.5 cubes (Qtc = 0.888) - F3 of 42 Hz

What does the "F3 of 42 Hz" mean?

will be a big upgrade from your kickers. mine are in a ported box so i can't comment on sealed. they get silly loud off 1500 but i will get more power soon.

SA's do better in ported boxes. PM Jacob and ask him.

F3 is the -3db point from the reference level. 42hz isn't too bad, but there are a few subs that work better in sealed boxes and can give you a F3 in the low 30's. I'd stick with ported.

2 12s ported takes more space than 1 15 ported i thought

EDIT: forget wht i said lol didnt know he had 2 15s already.

But yes, i would just two of their 12s ported. You will be more then amazed compared to your CVR's

In-vehicle with an F3 in the 40s response is pretty darn flat down to 20 or so typically based on some RTAs we've done over the years. If you get super low on the F3 sealed then you have an exaggerated bottom end (I ran a Dayton Titanic 1200 years ago in 3 cubes sealed... If you want a good sound then go for it!

So I'm still a bit confused, does that mean it won't hit frequencies down to 20 very well? I never understood what it meant by "flat" for frequencies.

Alright, so should still hit the lower notes pretty good? Also do the SA-15s come in Dual 4 coils? The store on SSA only offers them in 2 ohm coils.

Jacob makes good product but these forums get random brand boners. You'll be seeing another brand oogled over repeatedly next month. A few months ago it was all about the DD, then DC, then Skar had a very short run. Now it's Sundown. Brands are all good, but at certain times during the year one seems like the sub of the century just because everyone gets hung up on them.

We need to talk before you make a jump. There are actually 2 people in town that have Sundown. I'll hook you up with a demo to see what you think.

Speaking of which Jacob, you need to hook me up with a decent price on a couple of 12's. Shop might carry you and drop a brand (to remain nameless) we recently picked up if I can show your stuff is better than theirs. I don't think you'd have any issues with that.

Edit: I say we like I work there, I'm just part of the family because I've been going so long. I tend to help influence their decisions.

Funny enough I've had people saying Sundown was just a forum boner for over 4 years now... perhaps forum attention isn't as grand as it has been in the past but we sell more than ever overall.

Shoot me an e-mail -- I'd say that the SA-12s would be a good unit to show the shop. They are by far the best seller.

Awesome, thanks for that. Free shipping is nice too. Well I think I'll probably order a pair next week and see how I like them. I'm sure I can sell my CVRs locally for more than I paid for them.
