Currently running dual Sundown SA d4 12" in a 4ft^3 box tuned to 32 hz.

I was considering sending these in for the SPL recone.

Box alterations I would remove the 2nd port wall to make tuning 35hz and cubic feet slightly larger.

Question I have is, I havent heard much on the spl cone for these subs? I know its aluminum and all... However what would be the Gain from upgrading?

Thanks a lot!

If you actually like listening to music 40 Hz and below I wouldn't do the spl coils on the SA-12 man. I had one and was pretty unimpressed. The regular coil is great for music though. Don't get me wrong the SA-12 with the spl coil will play under 40hz it just didn't sound all that great to me doing it unless the volume was fairly low. Anything above 40 was great though.

I was planning on tuning the box about 35hz, 4.25 cubes net.

I am just wanting it to be a great deal louder than my current setup.

Dont get me wrong I love the lows. However I ran a aq hdc3.0 tuned at 40hz for the longest time and

didnt mind the sq on that setup. I assume the spl recones will still play the lower notes... just sound crappy doing so?

I just needed to know what the gain in loudness would be?

Well mine with the spl recone wasn't necessarily all that much louder to the ear. Maybe on the mic it would be a bit louder but to the ear the sub wasn't louder than any other similar quality/power range sub. And you hit the nail on the head with your one comment.......it will play the lower notes but won't sound so hot doing so. I've had audioque subs as well with that high tuned box and I much preferred those to the sundown with the spl coil. If you want something considerably louder simply swapping in the spl coil version of the SA isn't the ticket.
