My review on these new subs by sundown audio. Box is 3cubes net with 14sq inches of port area per cube tuned to 30 hertz. Pair is seeing 1400rms and have not broken in yet.
They sound really good, better than Hype R's and other middle range drivers. Overbuilt subs for a 600rms rating and can handle much more. They are very accurate and they sound great on all types of music.
I love the RHCP and the sub can keep up with flea and his ludacris bass slapping sessions and the kick drum is simply amazing. Very tight and punchy but loves the lows and has an excellent response curve (off ear). No obvious peaky frequencies, maybe a little louder around the higher frequencies but the subs are not broken in and my box is only 1.5 cubes net per sub.
Comparing to my AA havoc 18, I just took that sub out today and overall the only real difference was that the 18 has better upper frequency response (because it was sealed) and that was all, they both are very accurate and love the lows. The SA's are much louder! I cant say that they are louder than Type R's yet because they are only still breaking in but im sure that they will be as soon as I get them loosened up. The SQ is much better than Hype R's though and im 100% positive on that one.
Subs I have listened to: DD 9500 12's and 15's , Alpine Type R, AQ HDC315, AQ SD2.5's, Rockford P3, IA DP 21's, Ascendant Audio Havoc 18 and probably others but those are the ones I can think of right now.
For their price range they really cant be beat and I cant wait for these babies to break in!
