OK, so I'm quite sure that I just blew up the single E8 I was trying out ready for my double 8 set up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Just confirn for me these tell tale signs.

very small extension, sound is ok.

medium extension, sounds like cone is rubbing on something ( I checked it isn't)

larger extension, no where near as load as it used to be, lots os scratching/rubbing noise as the cone moves.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif:(

Put a fork in it.
It's done. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Are these fixable?

Is it worth fixing, or just move on?

I was planning on getting 2 in a box, I chose this sub because it only needs 0.5 cu ft ported and 0.5 each net is all I can get.

It's either 2 more or e RE 8's

What kind of power did you have on it and what enclosure?

I'm running a 4 channel with 2 rear channels bridged to 1.

It says 1000w on it, I just got it from SCtattooer so I don't know it too well yet.

So who knows, maybe 150 - 200W RMS at 4Ohm?

I think SCtattooer said 225 at 2Ohm. bridged.

So I didn't think I was going to over cook it, especially with the gain only 1/2 way and the filter at about 90Hz.

I made my own box, it's 0.6cu ft net with a 4" x 2" slot port that calculates as 32 Hz but it seems to peak at 40Hz.

Did I do something wrong? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

I am not familiar with the specs on the subs or the amp, but from what you listed i dont see the problem. I've run JL 8s in similiar set-ups. I would PM jacob, SN Sundownz, and talk with him. Hes the most knowledgeable for this .

Check to see if the spider is glued down still - you will break the spider loose before blowing the coil thermally.

Also try moving your leads around if it is the old one without tied down leads - you may have developed a little lead slap.

If all else fails "woofercooker" can re-cone it for you pretty inexpensively.

Thanks for the points to check.

If the spider is loose (to be honest I don't know what this means! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/redface.gif.62fdbfe1a101588a808c4cff71bcb942.gif ) what can I do about it?

Is it a re-cone form Woofercooker? Can I fit a re-cone kit to this myself without special tools?

Last night I paid Woofercooker for another E8 to make up the pair for my new box!

This morning I had to asked him to hold the shipping for a day or two so I can check out what I need to do.

If you have not re-coned before I would be hesitant to suggest you do it yourself. The E8 gap is pretty tight and not tolerant to a mistake in alignment.

The spider is the wavy cloth thing under the cone - make sure it is glued to the frame still. The E8 voice coil is very difficult to blow so chances are something else happened and not a blown coil (see video at bottom).

You can send it to Mike (woofercooker) and he can do the whole job for you - would likely be cheaper than a new one even with shipping.
