Always Hurtin Ears!!
Ok guys gonna give ya a quick review of the e15's I picked up for the wife's SUV. I have had them for about 2 months and since my car has been out of commission for the last three weeks I have had a bunch of listening time with them.
Product being tested:
Sundown E15 d4 (replacing a single jl 12w6) subs are rated at 400 watts each.
Setup:
02 rodeo 4 door deadened with a combination of dynamat, phatmat, and second skin
180 amp alt, 2 yellow tops, 1/0 welding cable throughout.
Sub amp is a Ed nin.1, mid/high amp is a ppi phantom 900.4 running 4 kappas (1 on each channel).
Head unit is a POS planet audio mechless (terrible deck).
Crossover is an old eclipse 3 way the thing is like 15yrs old and still works great lol.
Ok so the 2 e15's arrived from sundownonly.com (now EMF audio) and like a kid on Christmas I tore them open, each sub came well packed with a sundown sticker. First thing I noticed was the lack of stiching on the surrounding foam. I have a pair of SA's so I was expecting the foam to be glued and stiched to the cone but I guess for $130.00 they had to save money somewhere. The next thing I noticed was no owners manuel and no cutout template no biggie but still a lil perplexing. The moter structure is almost identical to the SA's except the coil is 2" with 140 oz magnets. Subs had good quality push terminals that will take a single 12 guage lead. Leads going to the moter are stiched to the spider (nice feature on a budget sub) all the nuts holding the terminals had thread lock on the to prevent unscrewing due to vibration.
Box:
I had a 5 ft3 and partioned sealed enclosure laying around so I figured I would break them in on that box so I siliconed and screwed them down after wiring them to a 1 ohm load. I installed the box firing to the rear and proceeded to reset my ED nin.1 with a dmm (it was already set but it never hurts to check when installing new equipment . The dmm gave a reading of 1.2 ohm for the subs. With everything wiredup and gains checked I pulled out the iPod and went to my break in test tones. I ran them for about 45 min at a moderate lvl about 50% output give or take. Right off the bat I could tell a world of difference bass was much deaper and more powerful.
Sound test:
I loaded the iPod up with a mix of bassnector, ugk, hair band rock, metal, Huston rap, hip hop, and some icp for good measure. Now the Nin.1 puts out over 1200 watts at one ohm so I was a bit concerned about pushing them to hard so I listened and smelled for any protest from the E15's. I slowly worked my way up the volume and to my pleasant surprise the e15's took everything the nin.1 had to offer. Bass was tight, controlled, and compared to the w6 they are replacing overwhelming!!
Box:
I kinda figured the sealed box was holding the subs back so I emailed sundown for box recommendations. After a week of no response I emailed them again.... Another week goes by... No response.. So I emailed again and got more of the same. Now this does not bother me too much they still have great products for the money IMHO but when you couple the fact that there was no owners owners book and you cannot get a return email from them it was kinda frustrating, but again no sweat I can deal with it so I got on there website and came across there box suggestions, which are almost identical to the SA box specs. So I ended up putting them in 8 ft3 ported tuned to 35 htz. This made all the difference in the world. The e15's preformed perfectly in this box. Bass was still very tight, accurate, and controlled while picking up several db's (estamation based on my ear) in the 30 to 50 hertz range. Very pleased with these subs in fact on the same amp I can't tell the difference between my SA's and the e's in sound quality and output. I would recommend them to any body wanting powerfull bass on a budget. To put it in perspective for half the money of the jl w6 I am getting what feels and sounds like twice the output. Best $260.00 pair of subs I have ever owned. After 2 months of listening I still get that grin on my face when I crank them up.

No owners info, had no tech support.
Absolutely no complaints on the product it's self. If you are considering a woofer or pair of woofers in this price range take a look at them you won't be disappointed
