Likely it has more to do w/ the impedance rise. For instance, I was testing a sub the other day - 8 ohms nominal. Playing music it was rising up to 20 ohms and higher.subs wired right. Its a D2 wired to 4 ohm....
Yes, I know I can wire it to one ohm, and I will try that. I just expected to hear MORE bass from the 1000D at 4ohm since it puts out double the rated power of the amp I was using before.
Say your 4 ohm sub is performing similarly, meaning ~ 10 ohms or so - the ED amp is "better at" putting out higher voltage as it was made for 4 ohms, which is what you need for this load, whereas the 1000D amp is more of a current amp as it was made for 1 ohm.
