I am planning on installing some 5x7's in my truck. I was woundering what the best way to mount these is, A sealed box or free air or what????

I am asking this because I am used to making boxes for subs and I do not have much experience with components.

usually the smaller coaxial speakers, such as your 5x7's, do not need a sealed enclosure to bring out their full potential and will run in free air applications real well. however, enclosing them will make them sound better with a better bass response. as for mounting them you may have some trouble. you will most likely need to put them in custom boxes (assuming they will not fit your doors or the mounts are taken.) if you give me a run through of the inside of your cab i could help you with some placement ideas.

Personally I dont like 5x7's I would run round 6.5s and just fit them in stock enclosures if you have them or build some kicks to get the best imaging possible.

arent 5x7's just 2 way plate speakers with a 4" mid and a 2" high?

whats so bad with them? i would rather run 6.5s or 5.25s as well

Nope, 5x7's and 6x8's are the normal (atleast used to be) speakers used in fords, They are actual coaxials, basically just smaller 6x9's, but yes they do make plates like you mentioned.

No, those are plate speakers (as you pointed out). There are also "regular" oval 5x7 speakers (HERE). General consensus is that round speakers are "better" than oval speakers.

I wouldnt run the plate speakers or any oval speakers in my car ever....I just dont think they produce quality sound...not like a good 6.5

front doors are subs...fyi Go with AudioControl 6x9 components up front and coaxials in the rear. You will be impressed with just changing to that.

If you can find these in your area. Id recommend these for drop ins. They play from 40Htz on up. Sound very nice on amplified power for premium...
