Ok, I have a 1975 Monte Carlo, and I want to get some really extreme bass going in it..

Right now I have a pair of 12" Phoenix Gold Sapphire's, I got them off a friend for free, and im running them off of a Rockford 3001 amp.. so their getting 206.5 watts RMS each. They are in an untuned Bandpass Box, facing eachother, and one sub the rubber surround is cracked and torn a bit. Right now they sound nice inside the car, but you can't hear them very far away..

What im looking at doing is getting 3 Kicker Solobaric L7's, and putting them in a ported box, then running them off of a Rockford 20001db amp. What I need to know is if this is a good idea, and if so, what should I tune the box to, in order to get a good flat eq response?

Also, am I going to need an extra alternator, or battery, in order to power that amp, as well as an amp for my component speakers?

And with Dynamat and stuff, is it intended for getting the best SPL inside the car, or does it improve the bass sound and volume outside the car too?

Oh another question, what is the difference between 2Ohm and 4 Ohm subs? I understand that 2 Ohm can handle more power, because of less impedence, so what I wonder is why would anyone bother with 4 Ohm? Do each have certain benefits or something?

Sorry I'm a newbie to car audio //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/help.gif.cee8f684da1ba626487a8bc51152e1ec.gif

Your questions are not easy ones to answer. First it will be hard to have” good flat eq response" and "extreme bass" in the same setup. But I will try and help.

First the Solobaric L7's are very good. As for the box, give Kicker a call, the will help you with the specs.

Second at least, you should add a 5-15 fared cap. What size is the alternator? If it is under 120 amp I would replace it.

Third Dynamat is made to stop metal from vibrating, it has nothing to do with SPL.

The difference between 2 and 4 ohm is the coil wiring. It has nothing to do with power handling. Some people need 4 ohm subs because they only wish to run one sub, or the amp isn’t 1 ohm stable. You have to look at the total install to see what ohm subs work best with your equipment.

Also, if give more detail on the rest of the setup it would help answer the question better.

I have no clue what kind/strength of alternator i have.. I do have another noob question tho, if I trade in my rockford amp for the model up from it, the 4001 i think, which is 2 channel, will that make my component 6x9's much louder than normal if I put it on them? Or will I just push them to distortion? Right now they aren't super loud, theres 2 pioneer 40 watt rms 6x9's in my back window and thats all, they aren't insane, but they're ok. i want em louder tho. If I crank them up to full volume they distort, and sound like ***, but a few clicks down their fine and its just not loud enough for me. Will an amp help that much? The other thing is, what can i get to filter out the bass frequencys from my components, so that I don't have ***** speakers trying to push out bass notes all the time?

As far as the kicker's im looking at going with, what would u guys recommend? Sealed or ported?
