suggestions on shallow mount subs

so more cone area is irrelevant? why does anyone run 12s or 15s when they could do way more 8s in the same box?
cone area is a wonderful thing. But, when you try to shove larger drivers in enclosures that are too small from them you lose output. I would run a 1508 over any shallow mount subwoofer.

put it this way...its like comparing a level 5 18 vs a pyle 18. Both have the same amount of cone area...but which one will be louder?
No its not. Were not talking a good brand vs a crappy brand...

people on here love alpine type Rs, so use the shallow one, if there is a 10" one, compare it vs the sundown, both ported right box size, same power, who wins?

now yes if were talking sundown 8 vs pyle shallow 10, i would go with sundown too...

sundown e8 v1 is the only 8 ive seen so far that will fit in that small box. the box is 6 inches deep and after the use of 3/4 mdf i will have 4.5 inches of clearance and the sundown is 4.25. this box will have to be sealed. ported is not an option due to port displacement.

I myself am trying to figure out some good shallow mount 10's or 12's. I am also in the same delimma of just running 8's. Would be a sealed enclosure just like you. The only difference between you and I's delimma is mine is going in a regular cab truck, you's are going in a car.

I emailed subthump.com, who makes the box im using. 10" mounting depth is 5.5" and 12" mounting depth is 4.75" for me. Close to yours. Thhe response I got back from them was to run the MB Quart 4LP 304. It has a mounting depth of 3" and a thermal power handling of 300 watts. They recommend. 5 - .75 cubic feet of airspace.

This is the repsonse I got back from Steve, the owner of subthump.com.

"Hello,

There's no quite enough distance for two 8s on each side. However, if you are looking for some superb sounding subs that play really low and hit incredibly hard, these subs work great in that box http://subthump.com/Car-Audio-Products/Subwoofers/MB-Quart-RLP-304-12-Shallow-Subwoofer.html check them out."
