I think a little heatshrink would be nice.

OAN, you will enjoy the JBL 660c McClerico83 recommended.

Yes, I didn't do any finishing while I try to figure out what's going on =]

Right now my audio quality is really "meh", one reason why I'm leaning towards amp being bad

Are there any tests I can run on the AMP to see if it's bad?

It was the gains, I feel a little sheepish after that one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Thanks!

Any recommendations on levels to start off with on my crossovers?

I wired for a sub and mono block, but right now I don't have one installed.

I like to do sub at 80Hz and mids at 125Hz at 12db/octave. You probably don't have a way to change the x-over slope, but 12db/octave is standard. You can use those as starting points and gradually adjust from there. Be mindful not to cross your mids too low. Also, did you end up buying all the speakers you posted initially - the infinity sets?

Alright, I've played around for the past couple of days, and I don't think I'll be satisfied sans Sub.

What do you guys recommend for a shallow mount sub? I don't care if it rattles windows, or if you can hear me down the street (I'd prefer NEITHER of those things). I DO care that it is tight and smooth. I prefer a warm sound signature, warm and smooth. Precise is great, don't care for sparkle, it is too fatiguing for me.

I'm already wired for a sub, just need a mono block amp and sub.

My budget is undetermined right now. But I'd obviously not like to give away my right arm.

Thanks again for your help.

How much space are you willing to give up? LxWxH, or let me know which area you'd like the sub enclosure to fit.

It would be going under my passenger-side back seat (it does fold up, but will keep it down).

L = 18.5 in

D = 12 in

H = ~5.5-7 (could do a wedge)

From what I've read, sealed, downfiring sounds like the way I would need to go, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks your help and expertise, I very much appreciate it.

Downfiring is very commonly done in the F150 S-crew. I'm working on a sub/box plan for you to consider.

I purchased the Infinity Kappas for the rear (6x8s) and the JBL components for the front.

MClerico, I know this topic is muddled with opinion/fact discussion everywhere. Of which I have little of both.
But why would you prefer a vented box in this situation over sealed?

Thanks for your suggestions, loving them.

I've heard great reviews about this sub, but guessing it will be too large for my situation:

did you ever figure out the whinning noise

Hehe, was toying around with the amp, and thought I had put the low pass crossover to max...but was the gains. Right now I have the gains at minimum on the AMP. At about level 40 on my deck it's about as loud as I can handle. I might up the gains slightly, still trying to get the best sound.

Part of my problem though...my source is my cell phone, which has it's own equalizer/DAC, I need to find a couple CDs I can pop in for some virgin tracks (just got an idea, throw some MP3s on a stick).
