suggestions for my 96 camry

Well some obvious choices for less expensive quality 12" woofers that I personally have heard would be the Kicker CVR and the American Bass DX. My best advice would be to listen to each brand yourself, even if those brands are not the two I mentioned. For example, Ive heard great sounding one 12" woofer setups from Infinity and Cadeance. Ive heard a new Sony Black Cone setup that beat real hard in a Chevrolet sedan, even though many people on this site, including me, have been critical of Sony. All of these setups provided deep pounding bass for the cars they were in, even though I would be somewhat reluctant to purchase those brands myself. Other brands that continually put out quality equipment are JL audio, Rockford Fosgate, and Memphis, though they may be a little more expensive. However you shouldn't have to look hard for a good sounding setup. Most decent woofers will sound good in a car of that size. But seriously, ask any of your local audio shops if they have a similar setup in a car similar to yours and listen for yourself, or just listen to the woofers in the store yourself and see what you personally like the best. Thats the best way to go to know for sure what you personally will like.

do you or anyone else have any experience with cadence? im looking into that brand and just by looks alone, i picked out a couple 12"ers that i like; the 12" Flash series and the 12" 2-ohm Striker. if anyone knows anything about these, i'd like to hear it.

and New, i was at the closest Best Buy store yesterday and i saw some Rockford Fosgate subs (my friend bought one from there too) and they do sound pretty nice. i dont know if i have a trained ear to detect a good sub from a bad one though, a thumping bass is just a thumping bass to me. i dont know much about its efficiency or its frequency ranges, so whatever looks cool is what catches my eye. there is an audio shop in town, i'll check them out and see if they have any recommendations. thanks for the advice.

EDIT: oh and i saw some REALLY cool head units there. i think it was the Pioneer 6800 that had a swiveling face that sort of slides down to expose the Aux input located on the bottom of the unit. i got to play around with all of the visualizations and the other buttons. one quick question though. i noticed Pioneer units' volume goes up to around 65 while others like Sony and JVC caps off at about 35. does this matter? the volume level could be pound for pound and the Pioneer increments are just smaller, so it can go up higher in numerical value but the volume level is still the same. or maybe it is louder? i have no idea since they werent hooked up to any sound, they were just turned on with no attached speakers.

the numbers on the volume mean nothing. I even had an old kenwood that went from 0 to negative 35... the numerical value is arbitrary. As for headunits if you like the pioneers get one. Just make sure it have 3 preouts (Front, Rear, Non-Fading/Sub). As for an amp/sub combo a RF wouldn't be bad per say, especially with the $50 gift card. As for an amp we'd need to know what subwoofer you pick. Oh and making your own box is very easy, so plan on qabout $30 for a sheet of 3/4 in MDF and a wire cup or two.

ok so i went to the audio shop in town and i got a pretty good tour of their stock. i got to listen to a dual Infinity Perfect 10.1 setup and it's pretty awesome. i also browsed their radios and found a nice JVC one. i found that i like the motorized ones that swivel more than the plain pop-open design. they quoted me 250 for a Directed amp and 250 for the Infinity woofers. the head units i was interested in were around 300. i started to get the feeling that place ran a bit expensive. one thing that i didnt get was that they never heard of a Cadence subwoofer. are they not that big of a brand?

anyway, acidic, like i told the guys at the shop today, im just looking around and trying to get a good feel for what works or not, im gonna hold off on buying something until i get the car (which turns out might be in 2 months because my g'pa is holding out on me). that package for sale looks awesome and the price is right up my alley, but i just wont have any use for a sub until the car arrives, and i might as well just wait. not to say that i dont want to see ads, because i actually want to see whats for sale and the prices and all that. it's all just learning for me. the more im exposed to it, the more i pick up. as far as buying goes, i just have to wait. (trust me, i saw a bunch of stuff on ebay that i would have jumped on in a second if i could, but im trying to discipline myself to wait for the car)...

thanks
