looking to go IB in my trunk. 2 15"s will fit. need some suggestions for good IB 15" subs which do not have a big mounting depth (figure about 7 inches or less for mounting depth). i am too lazy to look everywhere for a high Qts high Xmax sub. any suggestions folks? thanks!

Finding a shallow 15" with more than ~16mm Xmax is going to be difficult. Here are a few that may work...

Dayton IB15 --> High Qts, but 8-ohm SVC and 7-3/8" mounting depth, designed for IB

Tempest Classic --> Dual 8-ohm, .39 Qts with BIG Vas... 6-13/16" depth

Dayton DVC15 --> Similar to a Tempest, dual 8-ohm, .38 Qts but big Vas... 7-3/8" depth

MAW-15 --> .32 Qts, lower Xmax than the others, 6-5/8" depth

Kind of off topic, but how loud can one of these dual 15" ib setups get to be? cause i could really use my trunk space, if i could get reasonabily loud. (140ish db)

All sound like good ideas to me.

thanks for the fast replies all. i forgot adire still makes the tempest. their new site leaves a lot to be desired compared to the older one ... and i really miss being able to order direct from them too. as far as space, i still want as much trunk space as possible, so i was even looking at the old PPI Pro 15" flat cone sub and the JBL 1500GTi 1000 watt subs. both a bit old school, but limited Xmax... made up some by the reasonably high efficiency, but both have a pretty low Qts as well ... but ideas ... (and both at about 5" deep).

i have had a pair of ed 16kv.2's and 16ov2.s both ran ib.

the 16ov.2's were noticably louder than the 16kv.s'2 but i am not sure if they could break 140.

i was giving them 400w each and that was plenty to reach their mechanical limit IB.

Not many IB setups can brake 140...but it is possible.
Two 15's with a LOT of Xmax might be able to tap 140 in a good IB set up inside a car (strong baffle).
like a pair of modified FI Q's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

i have talked to FI and they can modify the Q's to work well IB.

and with that 27mm xmax they should be capable of above average output for an IB setup.

"FI" ??? who's that?

http://www.FIcaraudio.com It's a brand. A good one. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

image dynamics idq 15 ftw afaik
The IDQs play reasonably in a IB setup, but NOTHING like the IDWs do. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

Good luck finding a pair though...

Had a conversation to Scott about this, here's my email from him

"For IB, I would set the subs up with a higher qts and softer suspension... while they will work in your current box, they will not be as optimal as the standard Q12 would be in it. The modded subs would give you a little more SQL type output and less SQ... then moving them into a full IB setup, they would be very smooth and detailed... loosing much of their output vs the ported box. IB setups are very celan and sound great if sealed properly, but lack the same output of a sealed or ported enclosure. You wont lose SQ, but you will loose overall output... might not be an issue to you if trunk space is at a premium."

2 Q 15's will have over 4l of displacement. Give them a STURDY baffle, strengthen any walls that are directly beween the trunk and the cabbin (back seat, wheel wells, etc...) and deaden them well also, seal the trunk off as best you can. Give them enough power to reach full excursion over the majority of their bandwith and put a gradual slope Xover on them and a steep Sub Sonic at 20-25Hz. This is to keep the drivers from pushing themselves to their death. I'd put my money on you being at least high 130's which is more than enough for even street beating and you'd have excelent SQ.
