Hey guys-

I just picked up a box with 2 - Rockford Fosgate P2 10" Subs. Their website says they are 250w RMS/500w Peak. I haven't been in the car audio realm for a LOOOONG time. I need a suggestion for a decent, but cheap, amp. I don't know how many channels/watts I need to look at. Can someone help me here? I see lots of amps for sale on craigslist- just wanna make sure I get the right thing and not blow my speakers!

I have a Kenwood deck, it has pre-amp outputs on it for a sub. I have factory speakers, which is fine for now as I might not keep this car very long.

Can someone direct me as to how may watts/channels/doohicky/thingamabobs I need to power these speakers decently?

Thanks!

if you have a digital multi meter just set it to check ohm load and put one probe on the positive the other on the negitive will give you the ohm load and you can pick and amp based on that number otherwise you will have to pull them out of the box and check the back of the magnet

P2D210 would be 2 ohm

P2D410 whould be 4 ohm

If its already wired up its either has a two ohm load or a 4 ohm load look for a amp that does 500 at 4ohm probably

Yup- wired up just need an amp and hook them up to my deck... I have a pre-amp output for sub on my deck... What specs do I need to look for when looking for an amp?

sorry for the newbie question- but what's the difference between 1 ohm and 4 ohm? Do they hit harder/deeper/louder or something? Since I took these out of the box, I realized that only 1 side of the woofer is wired up. The other is not at all. So I assume that means my buddy was only running a single voicecoil on these things?

4 ohm just means more resistance to the amp therefore less power. it doesnt make a sub hit deeper or harder. If he only had one coil wired up then thats not good lol

Wire the sub up like this and get a mono block amp that does 500@4ohm
