heres my thoughts.

around 250$ for the sub and amp

using stock speakers in 2000 tacoma extended cab(2 door panels, 2 side panels in back)

already have a deck. looking for a setup that hits alright and something that sounds good

Sub, box and amp for $250? Wal-Mart may be your best bet.

find a dd dealer and you can't go wrong

Some shops like myself still have the A2 amps in stock put that with a dd510 and presto incredible bass from a great company at a affordable price.

There are plenty of options here on the classifieds that will fit your need of a "better than stock" budget build. You can get quality used gear that will perform better than stock. There are several decenct subs for less than $100 and a decent used 2ch amp bridged for less than $100 as well. I just built a budget system for under $400 and that was all parts (4 speakers, sub, and 2 amps) and doing everything myself.
