Suggested Ported Volume vs. Suggested SPL Ported???

I've seen several companies are offering ranges of ported box sizes, some 2, some 3, some just range (i.e. 3-5 cu.ft.). Seems that in general, smaller is best for accuracy/deep notes, mid size for mix of loud, deep, and accuracy, and SPL for loud and not much low end.

Which is going to be better for everyday listening? I'm guessing the non-SPL version. FWIW, I listen to a lot of different types of music, but really want to be able to beat down with some rap, hip-hop, lil jon type stuff.

Actually you've got it backwards. The bigger the box the lower the notes it can/will hit. and to an extent the smaller the box the more "accurate" it will be. But by more accurate I mean less "boomy" not accurate as in the frequency response.

Post up what kind of sub your looking at and what size and we can help you out with a box size.

Still trying to figure the subs out, but I have size constraints, so an extra 2 cu.ft. requirement can easily disqualify a set of subs. That's why I am trying to find on average if you go smaller or larger, or right in the middle of manu recommendation.

go with the largest box you can go with tuned low.... Besy for daily imo..

if you tune too low and have too big of a box and no mids to back it up, sounds like crap IMO. I tend to see what i can fit as far as enclosure then choose a sub, then make adjustments to enclosure to suit the sub.

I look at it like this, a larger enclosure gives you a more narrow peak at tuning, while a smaller enclosure gives you a wider peak near tuning. So use that as you may in determining what suites your needs best.

If you want low frequency extension, while still being able to retain some of the higher end of the spectrum, use a slightly smaller enclosure with a low tuning. Its what I usually shoot for, unless I want a straight low end pounder then I tune low in a large enclosure.
