WELL getting a 250 amp H/O Alt as a 2nd...unsure of brand atm.

The battery though...completely clueless as to how much power it needs to be able to push out.

Budget is $500. (Thank you tax refund)

The battery will be going in the trunk. Plan on keeping the stock battery and alt and just running a 600-800 watt component amp off of them. Currently run 1500 watts and its just a .6 drop but its enough to make the lights dim and effect the fuel pump/injectors. WELL dont really run run. Stopped using it at full power.

Just get u a KINETIK battery. Then for about $40-$70 take ur alternator to a shop and tell them you want it rewound in a delta series. Presto you will have enough reserve in the KINETIK and have an alternator thats almost double the output. Just my 2 cents

Whats wrong with a rewound delta series alt? I had one in my 82 VW rabbit running:

4 10" OLD school Alpine type R

2 sets of the old school alpine type R 6.5" components

2 Kicker ZR1000 amps for subs

2 Kicker ZR 600 for the mids and high's

didnt have any problems with it and had it for 3 years

Grab yourself 2-3 C&D tech batteries, and you should be good to go. Kind of off topic, and I don't mean to sound like everyone else on here that talks down to people, but did you by chance do the big 3 yet? And to JDMEK, theres no way he's gonna be able to run one kinetik for 3000rms and be fine.

Wont have the room for 2-3 batteries. The box that I got in my head will take up pretty much all of my trunk space. That +3 amps and a battery...its not just gonna happen lol.

Also yea I did the big 3 finally.

If you are running what you say. 800 watt to mids/highs and 1500 for a sub amp. A good 2nd battery will help alot. If you keep your stock battery, a mid to large size battery will fix it. A bigger alternator will help alot also.

If you were to do both. you wont drop .1 volt .. LOL If you have any plans of upgrading your sub amp later, get a big battery (kinetik 2400, powermaster 3100..etc..)

Its up to you which one to do first. I think i would choose an alt. shoot for 180 amp or bigger. That will keep your voltage above 14 volts. Then if you get a 3000 watt amp, just add a bigger battery to go with it.

MikeyF.. he never said he had a 3000 watt amp.. 1500..is what he says in first post.

You misunderstood me. I dont have the 600-800 amp for mids yet...hell I dont even got mids. Will be ordering crap in about a week when money from tax refunds gets deposited into my bank.

Im wanting to keep the stock battery and alt i got right now for mids+car and another alt+battery for the 3,000 watts...which will take like 250 amps to run if im not mistaking.

Anyways bbl work.

So you do plan on running a 3000watt sub amplifier.....?
Good question.. all i see posted is about a 1500 watt amp. LOL any way, if you are running 3000 watts, i stand corrected but not sure where it was posted. Well, if you get a 250 amp alt, just replace what you have you dont need to use it as a 2nd alt. 250 amp alt, stock battery and a Good Group 31 (Powermaster 3100, kinekit 2400 or 3800, Shuriken BT-120) will keep you good with a 3000 watt amp.

I had a 220 amp alt in my ford ranger with stock batt and just a group 34 Yellow top with a RD 3250.1 V1 and my voltage would stay above 13.9 90% of the time. If thats not enough, add a 3rd battery and you will have more than enough juice. just get a good alt, you get what you pay for. Keep an eye on the Idle amperage. Make sure it does over 120 amps at idle.

your voltage staying at 13.9 90% of the time has nothing to do with your battery, u just have a good strong atlternator. the battery picks up where the atlternator leaves off. Most good batteries has a resting voltage of 12.8 to 13.4

Plan on doing 2 AP15001d connected or strapped or w.e the **** you wanna call it with 4 12" subs. Also wanting to do a 600-800 watt amp for components. Probably wont even fool with using tweeters...most likely just 4 6x5s with like 100-200 watts each. Think going above 100 might be a bit overkill though. Not looking to impress or anything...just for my own listening and thats it.

Putting this crap in a Caddy and it has a good amount of digital crap. Which is why im wanting to use a 2nd alt...+battery. Plus another reason as to why I want to put a battery in the trunk is for an alarm system and of course keyless entry. I plan on putting in pretty much right after I get my tax refund.
