Subwoofers making odd noise....

My SA-12s been making weird noises. I dont know if its blown or not. They are still louder than ever, i just want to keep bumpin them without knowing what this noise is. Its hard to explain, it almost sounds like the wires that are hooked up to the speakers are being thrown around inside the box. What could it be? Also my amp seems to be getting extremely hot. Idk if that has to do with it.

Theyre two ohm subs. what should i be looking for?

2 ohms.

could be a air leak.

your reading could be off a lil .. 1.8-2.4 is right around normal (if you get 1.7 or 2.5, thats fine too)... if you see it spike really bad, your coil is toast

What he's saying is that if you have one sub reading 1.9 and the other reading 4.198 there's a problem. Get a DMM (multimeter) and set it to ohms, record the reading, post it up, and we will be able to tell you if the coils should be good or not.

Also don't have it on to test them.

But if my coils were blown, would the subs still be playing? I meen they sound good when in the car, but when you open the truck to look at them is when you hear the noise

A sub can play with a messed up coil until it completely goes out. Either way you would end up needing a recone.

but usually when one blows, you'll end up seeing some outrageous ohms... like in the 30's. thats what i mean by "spike"

Dust cap may have come partly loose. Do you have any pics?

Could also be a speaker wire tapping the cone. You might want just take the speaker making the noise out and inspect it. Could be worse if it sounds like a metallic noise.
