Is 12gauge wire sufficent for a JBL power 10, ran at 1ohm to a memphis pr1000? Wont be pushing the amp hard, but will be giving the sub about 600-700watts

700W at 1 ohm is 26 A. you want 10AWG wire.

P = I^2 * R

I = SQRT(700/1)

I = 26.45 A

note that 700W at 4 ohms is only 13.2 A

If your talking from the box terminals to the amp yes you will be fine with that choice.

you guys should do math before you answer questions like this.

in addition, your box terminals may not be able to handle this current. the push in terminals are weak. you want the straight-through bolt kind.

nope goes start from sub to amp, no terminal. Its the setup in my avatar, amp fits in that rack. Very short trip though, maybe a foot

distance is an important factor.

i'd use 10AWG anyway.

yea but i picked up 10foot of 12 today lol well ****

But i had it hooked up at 500 @ 4 to a kenwood and it was bangin a lil hard for me lol. So i may just run it 350 @ 4, these JBL power subs are LOUD. But im sure the single cab im in adds to the effect >.> lol

Just out of curiosity how many amps is my aq1200q at around 1200 watts putting out? I have 12 gauge wire for my 2 sa-12's atm seems to be working fine although i do have 12 on each sub and then parallel lines for each to get them to 1 ohm.

The current is split between the two wires when running parallel. So you use the equation above, but halve it for each run... If you combine at the sub and have only one run to the amp, then all of the current is on one wire.

ah ok so i'm doing 17.3 amps on each run I'll upgrade when I get my new sub enclosure since ill be getting a larger amp at some point.

10awg for 700w. Ok, bro. My 95Z 18 has 8awg leads. Does that mean I can only give it 1k?

Although good in theory, strictly adhering to this method isn't correct in practice. When will that wire ever see a full 26A? Playing a 0dB sine wave at full volume. Aka probably never. Playing music 14ga wire is likely to be more than enough for that setup.
