Subwoofer wattage vs. Amp wattage

I will be purchasing a Skar dual 12" ported enclosure rates at 1000w max and am wondering if a Planet Audio mono sub AC1500.1m 1500w @2 ohm and 750 @ 4hm would work or would I just destroy stuff. Amazon sells it with a 500w amp which seems pretty anemic even for a newbie like me. Thanks for any help.
