Subwoofer Trim Ring Removal?

So my dilemma is this - I built a custom slim enclosure, planning to mount my subwoofer inverted. Today, my Pioneer TS-W308D4 arrived and i have run into an issue. The trim ring does not come off, that i can figure. I had planned on the trim ring being removable, in which case i would have flipped the sub over and top mounted it with the trim ring on the bottom (now top) side of the lip. Is it possible to remove the trim ring and still accomplish this?

A person determined enough can remove almost anything. I'd say you'll want to either silicone around there when you're done so that the sub seals to the enclosure, or buy a gasket. They only way that wouldn't be removable is if it was actually the basket. I think that would cost quite a bit to manufacture and I doubt they did that.

No, it seems to be a pretty sturdy plastic... not really sure... i've put a bit of force into it, to no avail... I would really prefer not to break it...
