Subwoofer placement question

I had a sealed enclosure and it definitely sounded better facing the rear tail lights and pretty close to the rear of the trunk but with a ported is it best to have it close to the rear of the trunk or should it be closer to the rear seats? The reason I ask instead of just trying is because Id have to unmount my amps and go through a lot of trouble. I was just wondering if its worth it to try or would there even be any difference?

my trials showed it was louder loaded facing the tail lights(about six inches off the lid) but turned around with the box back up against the trunk lid sounded clearer but def not louder

You do get gain from the trunk and reflection. You normally want the enclosure a few inches away from any surround walls. This is true for pretty much any subwoofer system.

If it makes it easier, you can also scoot the box all the way back into the trunk but face it towards the cabin (like goingdef said I believe). You may not get as much gain that way but you still will.
