If you had a nice 400 watt amp and a 1.7 cu ft ported enclosure (29 hz) which subwoofer would you pick?

Which sub would work better with this enclosure. Looking for low bass //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Please explain you answers.

Sub #1.

It has a higher ebp, a lower qts, a lower fs

and it will see more power from your amp (assuming it's not a regulated power supply amp). Even if your amp is only 2 ohm stable, with impedance rise, you will see over 2 ohms. So, unless you for some ****ed up reason have a 3 ohm stable amp, I would go with sub #1.

Sub 1 won't necessarily draw more power from the amp; we don't know if they're dual or single voice coils nor do we know what amp he's using.

Also, just because sub 1 has a higher EBP, lower Fs and lower Qts doesn't mean it will play lower in that given enclosure.

Between those two, sub two actually models having more low end in that enclosure but really, it's a very negligible amount.

Can you find the Bl values? and can you verify that the Re is really 1.8 in the one and 2.8 in the other? It's possible to have a different coil, but the slight change in Vas and Qts looks to be nothing more than a stiffer spider on the second one.

RE: 2.8 ohm

I didnt want to post up accurate numbers before because I didnt want anyone knowing the mystery subwoofers.

Well, it's essentially the same driver with different coil resistances. Need to look with coils in series so they would be 1.8+1.8 or 2.8+2.8. Bl^2/Re is then 57 on the first one and 56 on the second. The second will have more turns of a thinner gauge wire to get the Bl close to where the other one is. More turns = higher Bl value, but Bl in respect to Re is virtually the same overall in both.

That all said they should model nearly identically. The second has a slightly stiffer suspension as well, but Vas is only changed 15% and that "could" be within tolerances between spiders (typical +/- 10% gives a 20% window). Very little difference in response between the two in almost all situations. The 1.8ohm DCR is on the high end for a 2ohm nominal coil. The 2.8ohm DCR is typical for a 4ohm coil. I'm assuming they are the same, and just 2ohm DVC or 4ohm DVC versions of the same model, but if they are DVC you need to make sure parameters are measured with the coils in series for them to check out right. Pick just based on that alone and which one works better for your amp.
