Subwoofer not what expected

I just recently put in a JBL GTO1214 bridged in the rear channels of a GTO1004, it is getting around 300 watts, but while I expected a nice bass to complement my highs it has more of a moan sound, almost like what it would sound like if i had a leak, but I have checked that...any ideas
