Subwoofer not hitting and bottoming out too easily

Hey guys I just got back from school and when I first drove my car I noticed my sub absolutely ***** now. I checked to make sure everything was the same, equalizers and gains. Everything was the same and now all my hard hitting songs are bottoming out my sub at 75% of my designated max. The sub wasn't really used other than my father listening to the radio once a week(just to keep the engine in relatively good shape) and he said he never listened to the radio loudly. What could be wrong? Nothing with the wires is wrong.

What sub, what amp, and what are the specs of your box?
Yes...this would help a lot so we can start diagnosing your problem. Also, vehicle, year of vehicle, how many miles on the vehicle, brand of headunit inside the vehicle, your social security number, your dog's name, do you have a sister? and while I'm at it....ok I got a bit carried away but seriously, gotta know what your running.

Assuming your enclosure wasnt messed with, its probably a ssf setting (especially if you are using a vented enclosure) or a gain setting.

More info is always helpful. For example, if your system uses more than one external amp (for the mids/highs) yet doesnt show the same symptoms, this would help us diagnose the problem.

Infinity kappa 100.9ww

Sony xs gm100 amp

.75cu ft sealed box

What is ssf?

My other speakers are hooked up to another amp and the speakers are perfectly fine. It's only the sub.

ssf is subsonic filter, does your amp have a knob for this?

It was gonna happen at some point anyways. You have a sub rated at 350 rms and are running an amp rated at 600 rms at 2 ohms. I bet you the sub fried from almost being ran on double the power. Not only that but, if you didn't set the gain properly and just turned it till you liked the volume than that will have done it as well.

The subwoofer isn't going to bottom out on the normal music you play unless there are notes your subsonic filter was filtering before. Most music won't even have those notes.

End of story it's time to pony up for a decent sub.

I agree. After seeing the specs on the amp, its clearly overly large for the sub. Without proper and extreme caution, failure was imminent.
