subwoofer maintenence?

yes that is the spider, but the guy is just messing with you. Really, one of the main things to do, IMO is keep your subwoofer out of the weather. I.E. if your subs are facing toward a hatchback, make sure your windows are tinted, or if your subs are in the trunk, make sure there is no leakage or anything of that sort going on in there. Also, never play your subs loud enough to the point of distortion. This causes heat, and will eventually fry your voice coil.
