Subwoofer limits

Hi all, I was curious if there is a sure fire way to tell how far I can push my subs? I have access to an ocilliscope if that would help at all. I am running two T1D410's from two R500x1's and I'm afraid to turn my gain up too much and blow them. Anybody have good ways of finding the limits?

Ok my issue now is that I can't read my rca voltage. I've tried for an hour and I can't get any voltage reading.

Play a test tone and set your O-scope to AC voltage. You can do the same with a DMM, but not as accurate.

There is no voltage on my rca at max HU volume with a 1khz test tone. I have the multimeter set to a 5v scale so I figure I should se something but there is no voltage readable to me.

Set your meter to AC 200v setting. Do you have your leads plugged in right?

Yes I can get readings from speaker output on the amp down to 2v but nothing on RCA. Ground on the ring and positive on the pin.

Ok figured it out. I had a bad wire on my meter. So I got it tuned with a 0db tone but playing music there is definitely not enough bass. Some songs are loud and others aren't. What db level tones can I use safely?

You could use -15 as long as there's no distortion. I'd stick with -5 though.

Ok so on my ocilliscope when I get close to the clip point the wave gets fuzzy at the peaks. Not flat but fuzzy. What does this mean?

Sounds like the onset of distortion to me

It means you're reaching the limits of your amps output

I've seen exactly what you're talking about on almost all class d amps I've scoped, the class ab I scoped turned into a stepped sine wave which I consider soft clipped

I have an r500x1D and I'm only able to cleanly get about 450w rms anything above that it's fuzzy. Would a higher battery voltage or agm battery solve the fuzziness? I got a certificate that says 634w rms tested/certified.
