I was looking around several days ago and seen that there was someone selling kits for subs... I cant recall if they were full kits or just recone kits... Where can I source parts to build my own subs?
I really would like to use a 12 spoke basket... basically making a RE replica but with some minor changes in the motor. I wish there was a site where we could buy all the parts and have them sent to the purchaser.
There are several different sites where you can purchase a variety of parts (cones, surrounds, spiders, etc).
But if you want a subwoofer that's actually going to perform worth a damn, it's not as simple as just going out on a internet webpage and clicking "add to basket" a few times.
Well, you could make it that simple....but the results would likely be horrible.
Keep an eye on the classifieds on the different forums and ebay, motors from blown subs go up for sale all the time. From there it's a "relatively" blank slate...though I would still recommend having a buildhouse/manufacturer atleast design the rest of the sub for you and get you the parts, even if you want to attempt to build it yourself.
Also....Thousands of companies use the 12 spoke basket. That alone would hardly make it an RE clone.
I would first recommend you contact someone like TC or RE to see if they'll recone the subwoofer for you. Or, atleast send you the parts (unwarrantied) and allow you to assemble it yourself.
Because, like I said...it's not as easy to design a subwoofer that's actually going to perform well by visiting a few sites and clicking "add to basket".
