Subwoofer Issue Is Driving Me Crazy!!

Man I am unsure as to why I can't get any power out of my subwoofer. I have a JL Audio 12W7 that is being powered by a JL Audio 500/1 amp.

I previously have a JL Audio 1000/1 amp powering the sub, but unfortunately it got stolen, and I have the 500/1 as a backup amp.

Anyhow, I mounted the 500/1 amp, ran all the wiring, but for some strange reason I am not getting anything from the sub!!

The Green Light Power indicator on the amp is on, so I know the amp is not the problem, but there is absolutely nothing coming from the sub.

I checked the connectors on the sub inside the enclosure and on the outside, and everything looks fine.

I have no idea what else could be the problem!

Could the sub possibly be bad at this point? It never showed signs of it being on its way out, but I'm not sure at this point...

Then again, I took an old sub and connected it just to see if it was the 12W7 that was the problem, and the same thing was happening with the sub that I was testing, absolutely no power or anything at all...

I would greatly appreciate it if you guys could help me out in figuring out what the issue could be at this point.

Thank You

Because power comes from your amp.

I understand that the power is coming from the amp, but if the amp is good and all the wiring is good, then how is it that the sub is doing absolutely nothing?

Well assuming your amp is powering up it is likely not the power/ground/remote.

Take sub out, make sure speaker wire is all installed properly.

Check settings on amp.

Check and make sure RCA's are sending a signal.

Check on HU to make sure you have everything proper

Mostly redundant or overly complex testing methods suggested so far. To check the integrity of the sub, place your DMM on the amplifier's speaker terminals (where the speaker wire connects to the amp) and see if the impedance reading is correct for the coil configuration desired. This also verifies the speaker wire and connections, not just the speaker itself. Seeing as the slash series of amps work in a wide range of impedances, and you've already tried another sub with the same outcome, its sensible to suggest the speaker is not the culprit. A green light indicator on the amplifier alone does not mean the amp is fine, it simply means the amp is powered up. The rem wire could be the problem, or the RCA/signal connection. Id start with those two possibilities and go from there.

Those dub 7's require 1.21 giggawatts to move, that's why your sub isn't movin' //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
