subwoofer depth

I'm driving a 2000 Silverado, using JL Audio Vantage subwoofer boxes for under the rear bench seat. I had two Sony Xplod 12"s in them, but just got two Hollywood Excursion 12"s from a friend of mine. Only problem is, when they are screwed down into the box the end of the magnent is right up against the top wall of the box (it's a down-fire box). Is this a problem? Will it make it sound like junk, or maybe hurt the subwoofer? I havent hooked it up yet b/c I didnt know what would happen. Just lookin for some help to see if they would work or not. Thanks

no shouldnt hurt anything unless its pushed up against it real real tight....

they need at least an inch or rearward clearance... if you do not give them it, a major sourse of cooling is blocked, which will drastically decrease the thermal power handling of your subs... basically... tehy will fry..

the cooling system (big hole in the magnet on the bottom) is going to need at least a tad bit of space behind the magnet so that it can breath... if its right up against it, it could overheat and burn your coils out....
