SUBWOOFER CONFUSION !! pick me one plz

Hi guyz, i am confused i currently have an Alpine 40 x 4 AMP and RE 6.5 components in front doors. i have 2 rear channels left which can do 100 watts rms

3/4 channels also have BASS EQ. Can i run a RE 10" with 100 watts rms or should i go with 6x9. eason why i am more into sub is bcuz SQ in front stage is fine and i dont have passengers ridding in rear so don't really need the sound there. my only hesitation is the 100 watts for a sub. would it be enough to get a good sound out of the SUB? plz recommend me a sub. if i should get a sub then which one should i get? RE 10, RE SE10" or Kicker 10" which one will have a good response to this power.

Don't run an RE on 100 watts. You would be better off putting some 6x9's in for rear fill and running them off the amp. Later on, you can get a subwoofer, and a seperate amp for the sub.

BS............I have a cousin that is running a 12" sub in a ported box with only 100watts from an old Sentrek amp. This sub gets very loud and goes deep for only 100watts. I was literally stunned. I say give it a try with the 10" sub (ported)......you might be suprised at how well it works.

The rms on that is 200Watts. That may work? I dont really know. But that was from a 3 second search. Search around sites where you can get something cheap that can do the trick. But I would think some good 6x9's would be better.

Listen......6x9s would NOT be better......there is no way in hells kitchen any 6x9 with 100watts would sound better and be louder than a sub with 100watts. I would put my cousins 100watt powered sub against any 6x9s with 100watts.....it would not even be remotely close. His sub actually set off the alarm on his suburban that was sitting right next to his car.

I am currently running a set-up very similar to your's, only I'm using a Crossfire VR354 which is 35X4. The front channels are running a set of Crossfire SR comps, and the rear channels are running 2 (that's right, 2) Crossfire DB3 10's in a sealed box. They are only getting 35W each! My box is downfired, so I make people guess what I have first. Everyone always thinks I have 1-2 12's and around 300W. Pretty amazing how much you can do with so little.

Of course I'm looking to upgrade now too.

Thank you......people tend to forget, systems used to only be powered by 100-200watts back in the day. Im not knockin 1000watt and up systems of today, but systems used to be low powered and still bang.

Im only pushing 140watts and I get comments all the time on how loud my system booms.....of course I have a slot ported box also, which helps.

^ x2 - if the amp is putting 100wrms into the load, it should be juuuust fine.

I rocked a pair of 12" RF Stage 1 *sealed* off 200wrms. And it was louder than necessary.

1) I didn't say that 6x9's would be 'better' than a sub. The reasons why I think he should get a set of 6x9's instead of a sub:

-Rear fill will give a fuller sound than just two sets of speakers in the doors

-RE's can take more than 100watts, and should be given more than 100 watts

2) I'm really questioning what you consider 'loud'. You say you were 'stunned' by a sub being fed 100 watts??

3) You're right, 6x9's wouldn't get louder than a sub, but they would definatly give a fuller sound than a 100-watt-powered sub.

4) If your friend set off a car's alarm with only 100 watts going to his sub, that means the guy's alarm was waaay to sensitive. You're fucking retarted.
