Subwoofer choice with Hifonics BXi1210d amp

Hello everyone, Im new here and the reason why I joined is because Im having a problem deciding on what sub to get with my amp. My amp is a Hifonics BXi1210d. At 4 Ohms it has 450 watts RMS, at 2 Ohms it has 900 watts RMS and at 1 Ohm it has 1200 watts RMS. Right now I have it powering an 4 Ohm DVC 10" Alpine Type R in a sealed box wired to 2 Ohms. It sounds okay but I have a friend thats interested in buying it so I figured it would be a good opportunity to get a new sub more suitable for my amps power. The Type R is only rated at 500 watts RMS so obviously its overpowered. Anyway, I was leaning towards JL Audio but I dont know if I should get a 10W6v2 which is 600 watts RMS at 2 Ohms or a 10W3v3 which is 500 watts RMS at 4 Ohms. I want good SQ but at the same time I want SPL. Im only looking at 10" subs because I have a Mustang and trunk space is limited. I cant get a W7 because my amp cant handle that subs weird Ohms and plus, that sub is way out of my price range..

What other brands are out there that I can research about or consider? Thanks in advance!

You wil not get good SPL out of any JL sub, a bit on the W7 but not much. You will be disapointed by both the W3 and W6s output. Just shop around and you can find the W7 for under $400, save a bit if you must.

If you are not hung up on JL look at FI, DD, DC, Sundown, SSA, Acendent, ID, Ground Zero and many more options.

Alright thanks guys. Well, if I were to pick either SQ or SPL, I'd pick SQ. I can't use a W7 because my amp can't handle it. Well, I dont think it can. Also, I'm only planning on using one 10" sub because of space. I guess it is realistic to think that I wont get SPL, that's fine with me though.

I want to use 1 10" sub around either of the amps power ranges. 1 Ohm 1200 watt RMS sub, 2 Ohm 900 watt sub or a 4 Ohm 450 watt RMS sub. I'm pretty new to car audio so I don't know any brands except the mainstream ones. Ex. Alpine, JL Audio, Infinity.

Hmm, how about a 10" type x? 4 ohms DVC. Rated at 1000 watts RMS. I can wire it down to 2 ohms. What would sound better(SQ)? 1 10W6v2 or 1 10" type x? Anyone have experience with both? I can get them for almost the same price.

i would choose the ICON over the type x or w6. overall better quality and built in the USA //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I'd honestly stay away from the mainstream subs no matter what, only because they've established such a huge reputation over the past 20+ years that they're turning into the junk that every other product is. They're more flashy, pricey, and underperforming than they used to be. I'd go with the SSA Icon linked to earlier in the topic, or if you want something that will be loud while sounding good, get the Image Dynamics IDMAX. IDMAX10-D2 IMAGE DYNAMICS 10" IDMAX SUB 2 OHM SUBWOOFER | eBay

Thank you guys very much for your quick responses. It's helping me out a lot! Feel free to let me know of more subs that I can use. My friend didn't buy my sub yet so I still have time to do some research.

the funny thing is most people say thet want SQ when they have no idea what is really involved in acheiving SQ. If a car is built for SQ it will require a ton of deadning and sealing.

If you take a SQ sub like the W6 and put it in a car that is not set up for SQ it will just sound good no more. Set the car up right and it will sound real good like it was built to.

If you take a SQL sub and put it in the same setup it will sound the same and be much louder! Panels flexing and trim rattleing quickly take away from the advantage of a W6.

And that type R will be much louder then the W6..
