subwoofer built into tower, or seperate powered subwoofer

I have seen many projects and arrays that have subs built into the cabinet...there are also many cabinets on the market with the same design...i am trying to figure out what are the pros/cons of using subs built into towers or using a seperate powered sub...or, do you guys use both? that seems to me like it would be a little overkill...not to mention it would be hard to get it to sound right unless the same subs were used all the way around...or maybe im a noob

i think ur right...i mean, it would be super mean to have a couple subs in each tower then a huge powered one also, but i think it would be too much bass....i will save the towers for midbass/mids/highs and save the dirty work for the powered sub
