subwoofer advice

Hey,

I am having a hard time deciding which sub I should get. I have searched, and done tons of reading. Adire Brahma seems to keep comming up, as well as the RE subs . . .

I am no expert when it comes to this stuff. I am looking to get very good SQ. SPL is secondary to me.

I had two 10" boston acoustic competitors off of a PPI amp (400 watts I think?)

They were stolen from me, but I really liked the sound. They were in a 2001 vw golf though, so I am sure that the hatch makes a big difference.

So now I have a 2003 jetta, and want some bass again. I assume I will beed to make up for not having the hatch with more bass? Dynamat maybe?

I have an alpine cda-9833. I am inclined to order an alpine MRD-M1001 just cause I can link it up to the deck. Kinda cool. Or would I be better of saving the money and going with the Orion 1200.D or something? 100 bucks less . . .

Soo, now this leads to my question. If I were to get the alpine amp, and I want nice tight hard hitting bass . . . but TIGHT! What would be my best bet for a sub configuration.

$500 on a sub? I can spend more if it's worth it, but I don't necessariy want to. Do I need 2 10's again? Or can I accomplish this with one 10, or one 12?

Any help you guys can give would be great,

James

one 12" RE XXX or 12" adire Brahma are two of the best SQ subs that still hit very hard. i dont think you will need two of either but its up to you. the MRD-M1001 is 1000 X 1 right? it would be perfect for either sub.

I'm in BC, ya . . . where is adire located?

The alpine amp is 1000x1. Two 10" adire brahmas would match that decently?

And how does a person go about deciding between 2 10's and 1 12? Will the end result be similar? What would be better suited to the alpine amp? And what would provide better SQ? If I were to go with one 12, which would match teh amp better, the brahma or the XXX?

thanks for the help . . .

2 10" will have just a little more cone area which means just a tad louder. the RMS of the XXX and BRahma are 1600 RMS but 1000 should push it plenty //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif in a pretty big sealed box for SQ reasons. although you could port them with a low tuning like 28 Hz.

OK, I did some calling around, and I've decided to go with 1 12" Brahma.

So now, do I get the alpine MRD-M1001 or the Orion 1200D? The Orion says it is rated at 1200 watts only at 1ohm? and 750 at 2ohm.

Alpine says 1000 at 2ohm.

What are the voice coils on the Brahma? Will it be possible for me to get a 1 ohm load with just one 12?

DVC 2 ohm. 1 ohm wired in parallel

1K watts is plenty power to 1.

I have 2 BTW, thats mine in the Avatar there

There old school inverted dustcaps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

P.S

if you actually go down to Adire then you might save on shipping if they will deduct it from the price.

Do not get the Alpine because it will not be 1 ohm stable. You will want an amp that will put out 1000watts give or take @1ohm...
ok, the alpine is out if it's not 1 ohm stable . . .

what about the orion 1200D? 1 ohm stable?

these are the spec of the orion 1200d

1 X 425 @ 4 Ohm

1 X 725 @ 2 Ohm

1 X 1200 @ 1 Ohm

Selectable 12/24 dB/octave variable low-pass filter

Intelli Q bass optimization circuit and remote gain option

Separately adjustable, selectable variable high-pass filter with proprietary Copy/Master control circuit for RCA outputs

Copy/Master feature supports gain and crossover adjustment matching in multiple amp

Switchable phase invert function

Allows external bridging of two matched gain amplifiers

Heavy gauge direct-wire high current satin finish power and speaker terminals

also get ahold of don at AIM: Stemy luv69

he sells orion for pretty cheap with warranty and tell him Themainjam sent ya //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
