are sub sonic filters needed for subs in ported enclosures even if you only listen to actual music with it? I'm planning on running a xxx in a ported enclosure and powering it with a jbl1200.1 and as you probally already know a fault with this amp is that it doesn't have a subsonic filter. I'm planning on getting a audiocontrol 6XS crossover that has a built in subsonic filter but it would be a little after i get the amp and subs.

As long as you don't turn the volume way up until you get a subsonic filter, it should be ok. A woofer in a ported box has good power handling above the tuning frequeny. but below the tuning frequency, power handling drops off considerably and the speaker can be damaged from over excursion.

I believe a subsonic filter is super important when you have a ported enclosure. Any music that is played below the tuning frequency of the port is just wasted energy so cut it out.
