Just read in a Kicker manual that my Solobarics (which are going in a ported box) need a subsonic filter to insure their life. Yeah..don't know what that is. Any help?
its a high pass xover(usually adjustable) that can be found on most Class D mono amps. If adjustable, you can set it at a certain freq.(usually 0-5 Hz below tuning of the box) to help limit the excursion of tones that are under the tuning...
And its not necessarily true that you need a subsonic filter for subs in a ported box. As long as the box is tuned to about 30 Hz or Below, it really isn't necessary to have a subsonic filter( i've had 2 different subs in ported boxes tuned to 26hz and 30hz and have never had a problem w/ either of them)
