its like a normal crossover but instead of filtering out all the frequencies above that, it filters all the ones below that

ex. subsonic = 30 hz, ur sub wont play any notes lower than 30 hz

without one, u could damage ur subs by making them play a note to low, it is highly recommended for all high end subs

i wouldnt put to much power to my sub with out one, dont want hte chance of blowing it

hope this helps

The only application you might want to have a subsonic filter is when you have your woofer in a vented/ported enclosure.

It prevents over-excursion at frequencies below the tuning of the box. But as mentioned... its really more important when your sending your woofer a lot of power.

Lets just put it this way...its always nice to have one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Those are expensive woofers....so I definetly would.

But what amp you running them off? Most good Sub amps have an intergrated Subsonic filter onh them. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

except jbl

but then again some would dissagree about that being a good amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

It all depends on what frequencies that your going to port the box. Anything from about 30 Hz and below won't be necessary to have a subsonic filter, unless u like playing 10 Hz sound waves //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It's a must have if you're going to tune it above 28Hz, just to be safe.

the lower i tune it .... the more sq ... correct?

so if i did tune it to 30or 28hz.... a subsonic filter is good to have but not a must.. right

im jus curious..... still got that newbie blood flowin through me

If you tune it to 30 you might want to get one just to be safe, but you would be alright as long as your careful and don't play any tones that are below tuning.

And yes, if it's tuned lower it will still retain pretty good SQ.

lower tuning = fuller, lower bass response. More SQ

Tuning 28Hz or 30Hz wouldn't need a sub-sonic filter.

You could get away with not using one. Depends on the source material that you are playing.

Most source material won't have large amounts of energy below 30Hz or so. If you listen to a lot of digital Bass CD's you would want to have a sub-sonic filter to protect your sub from harmful freq. Many Bass CD's contain 20Hz and lower material.

Just to be safe, I would use a sub-sonic filter at any tuning freq.

My enclosure is tuned @33Hz. My SS filter is set @27Hz.

Without the sub-sonic filter the subwoofer becomes unstable below the tuning freq. Which can cause terminal damage to the subwoofer. Especially with high power applications.

iight.... thanks for droppin all that knowledge on me.

i appreciate it
