when a sub says that it can handle 500w rms does this mean it can handle 500w @ 4 ohms, 500w @ 2 ohms and 500w @1 ohm? i am still confused about that. i dont want to under or over power the things. i could never get a straight answer to this question. help.

Well what sub are u talking about. IF a sub is rated at 500watts. It could be a Dual 4ohm. Single 4ohm, or dual 2ohm. Theres alot of options. Let us know what sub u have in mind

i mean subs in general. if its a dual 4 ohm or dual 2 ohm voice coil for example

Ohms have no effect on a speakers power handling. ohms=resistance. An amp rated 200 watts @4 ohms will put out 400watts @2ohms, and will probably shut down @ 1ohm, unless it is a high current amp. The resistance(ohms) will effect the amount of power your subs will get from an amplifier, not how much they can handle.
