Im trying to make a subwoofer but i want to use the strongest motors out there. I know that my old 2005 re audio xxx had a strong motor along with the FI BTL N3 series and N2 series, DD z series motr and incrimanator audio warden motors are also strong. Im thinking of using a 4 layer coil instead of a 8 layer butttttt im not so sure. I want a sq sub, dont think a sq sub cant get loud, im using 4-6 spiders and i want a paper cone. I want to be able to power it with a large amp and i want it to play in a larger box , also NO PINKY SIZE SURRPUNDS LIKE THE ZV4...

You will lose motor force and power handling going with a 4 layer as opposed to 8 layer...you can't just throw a parts list out there and make a good sub. the 05 Re XXX was an xbl^2 sub which is pretty awesome, but I wouldn't throw it in the same category as the other beasts. Start with motor and go from there. You either need to talk to an experienced sub builder or do some reading. but some strong motors that you didn't list.

TC sounds 4hp

Shocker Sig

Shocker Sig Neo

Solo X as mentioned

Sundowns new NEO SPL 2015 (not yet in production)

EMF YOLO

Redstar UFO4

I was thinking a Fi btl n3 or a EMF motor. Theres a video of EMF charging a motor on osne of there subs and theres enough current to make a 100 pound sub jump.. its called (( emf charine a motor)) or something , its on you tube on the emf channel check it out

Magnetic force is an inverse square of the distance. Shrinking the gap raises force in the gap exponentially. Hence stronger motors will almost always have thinner coils and very small gaps.

You want Neo or ferrite? Solo X isn't as strong as some as the stuff out today. You want 3 or 4 inch?

3 inch neo

DD Z

4 inch Neo

DD Z4

3 inch Ferrite

Super charged DD 95

4 inch ferrite

Super charged DD 99

With that said you need a coil to match their tight gaps. A good 4 layer will cool better and be lighter.

to be completly honest, i would like a 3 inch coil and a neo motor, i would also want decent clearance because after the soft parts break in because im building my first sub i dont want to have to recone them all the time because i scrwed up my coil gap, i want a big as a coil to motor cap i can get and for cooling im adding half inch spacers between the basket and motor, i also am not using regular push on termanls because thats what companys do, BUTTTT i do LOVE LANZAR OPTIDRIVE GOLD SCREW ON TERMANLS so im think about taking off my termanals to it, (( i have a blown 1232d)) i must say for such a shitttyy sub , i had them just for laughs and jokes ,bought them for 120 bucks a pair, i had them on a audiopipe 3000 amp and beat the hell out of them , until i complty toasted the coils in means of bottoming it out and having coil rub because it was pretty much tearing the spider and jumping out the box. i hate shitttyy push terminals. my sundown zv3 18 has push termanls and i think its a utter fuckkkin joke, the LANZAR IS A 120 DOLLAR sub and the shittt downs over 500 and sundown cant put a quality termanl on it , i think its a joke. also im using 6 spiders on my sub. itll give it that rennosance factor. plus i play my system when i have one full blast when i play it, there is no half volume. when i drive past i shake concrete

U don't know what u are doing. Can't just throw part together an make a sub. EMF motor is just heavy not super strongest out there. Also sundown has 4g push terminal which are awesome for wiring up subs. Greatest ever because every one sub I've used have 8g tiny terminals that u have to trim speaker wire to fit in there.

is there 1 motor thats consider the be all of motors ?
For the past few months i was considering making my own subs but not sure what motors are good and wanted a great motor.

Yes, ideally that's why I was interested in your tight gap sigs even though I hate super heavy motors; I still regret not making the money work out for them sooner, crosses my mind at least once a month. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif I thought he was approaching it from the standpoint of throwing a 4 layer coil in lieu of an 8 layer in one of the motors he has mentioned keeping gap specs the same. Ideally for super strong motor force you want a tiny gap and as many layers within reason that fit to reach your estimated power use while keeping mms low as you and I have discussed at length previously //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. But given the ops original post it sounds like he wants to throw several kilowatts at this sub and filling the gap with more layers is better than empty space given his application goals. Maybe I was wrong there, and it's my opinion at that point you really throw sq out the window as super high spl levels is not very enjoyable imo.

Also going to have to place an order for the good stuff here in a bit. Almost out. I didn't use much over winter as tried to cut down on sweets. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
