Ok so somebody brought me their car to look at their system to attempt to fix it..

The problem was that w/ the volume at 0 the subs were producing sound, it was a steady wave of noise, almost like if it were the current flow.

I checked some of the wires, found that the ground was loose and not sanded, so i went ahead and found a more secure place for it and sanded down the area.

Unfortunatly my freind had to leave before i could check how the wires were run from HU to Amp and the rest of the power wires.

If anybody has the solution to this problem it will save me a ton or trial and error time.

Thanks in advanced

I didn't pay too much attention on the models on the system but here is the basics;

HU: Pioneer (one with the nice display, not pictures)

AMP: Lanzar Vibe (1000W

SUB: 2x JL (older version, don't know specs)

WIRE: 4guage both power and ground.

pinched rca cables is my guess, try re running them. Ive seen this twice and its happened to me, and the cause of mine was pinched/bad RCAs. It was weird, like you would take a cd out, and it would make feedback bass lol, and if it was at 0 volume it would still do it. I checked my ground also, and it was fine, so thats my .02

hope it works, gl

Ever hear of a ground loop? If plopy's idea doesn't work, check to see if the power wires are run alongside the RCAs. If this is the case, run the RCAs and power wire down separate sides of the vehicle. Usually this isn't a problem with subwoofers but it could definitely be the cause. Also check the resistance between your ground and the battery ground. If the resistance is higher than .5 ohms its still a bad ground.

does it still make the sound with the RCA's disconnected from the amp? If so, amp issue. If not... does it still make the sound with the RCA"s plugged into hte amp, but not the head unit? If so, its definitely an RCA issue. If not the next action would be to either try another head unit or try a different pair of RCA's, whichever is easier at the time.

Just keep narrowing things down and you'll get it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Just double check make sure the power is feeding proper juice and the ground and rcas are secured and the rca not pinched! Could be the cd player to... Mine use to drag like that and turnout to be a ground...

Things i did today;

1. Power cable ran along one side of car, RCA's along the other

2. Checked all connections and secured them

3. Tried a different set of RCA which i ran down the middle of the car away from all other wires, and still no luck.

The subs stopped if;

1. The HU was turned OFF

2. The RCA's where disconnected from HU

I'm guessing the HU has problems, now the question is what?

ground your rcas its a pioneer thing
How would i go about that?

last time that happened to me, the head unit got screwed up cuz some rca wires touched, it may be the out put from the rca off the cd player.
I made one mistake, which was not check the Front & Rear RCA outputs. I guess i could have always done it like that.

Is the HU repairable? Can it be shipped to Pioneer and get them to fix it?

wrap wire around the outside part of your RCAs

then ground the wire.

ground the wire to the chassis of the head unit itself... theres no reason to run grounds to the car.

An easier way to do it is to take an 18 guage blue remote wire, strip about 3 or 4 inches of the wire completely... and just wrap the bare wire around the preouts on the head unit, making sure to tighten both loose ends around a bolt. That way, your RCA's will pinch that wire and you will have grounded it with a very secure connection.
