subs smelling...are they blown???

I have to kicker COmp CRV's that when i power them up for a min or more they smell...are they blown???

sometimes drivers burn glue off normally, sometimes it's a sign they're on their way out...

What do you have your gains set at? What's the rest of your system?

if it starts 2 smell like peanutz or a sweet smell yes they are blown

i blew 14 speakers in a course of 8months i got high off of voice coil formers and glue..and smelling vented pole pieces

a little happy with the gains are we? i was having trouble keeping subs alive but that was due to the harsh conditions that they were in.

running off of a kicker 800.2 amp, gain is set a little bit higher than normal but nothing too high, i havent even turned it up to 50% yet

my gains were ok....i just kept playing my system for hours straight and the voice coil heated up and the rest is history

The smell was strong when i first got mine (2 15s) but now I only smell it when its cranked loud and playing for a while. Maybe need to turn gains down a tad.

that's how my SE was when I had it in my sealed enclosure. I would only smell something if I had my system cranked. I now use a ported enclosure and have since used the gain setting tutorial which cut my gain back a lot. I do not smell anything now

i have four treo tsx 10"s on a zapco c2k 9.0 in my boat. while out on the water i play it anywhere from two to ten hours straight. i have adequite cooling and they are fine on 2000 watts.

well with those subs u can get away with it..they have bigger coils than what i had..and it handles more power rms wise...so u could play them for hours striaght...becuz thermally they can handle it...

i was talking about my volume...my gain is not at 50%...im not stupid to say that

usually with new subs, the glue smell is common...if would make sure to adjust the gains properly and keep prying fingers away after it is set.

i made the VC bottom out on mine

then i took em back to frys. but while i had them, they never had a bad smell
