subs smell?

my CVX's just started to make a funky smell, kinda like some rubber was burning. is this normal? they still hit like they did before the smell. i was just wondering if it was nothing to worry about or if i have to go and get some new ones.

How Old are the subs?

they are about a month old

Normally, when the subs are new (under 30 min of playtime) and you wang them hard...The glue that some manufactures use on the coils will produce a smell.

But im sure you have wanged them hard along time ago if they are a month old. If you are smelling like and electronic board burning smell, turn your gains down.

no i havent touched the amp since i got the subs. everything was fine and then all of a sudden this morning on my way to work i started to smell this smell like rubber was burning. i just hope its nothing major

I smell the smell of new car audio equipment in my car when I'm cranking my shit. It's definitely not rubber and it doesn't smell acrid or bad perse.....it just smells like that smell when you open a box with a brand new sub in it.

It didn't worry me at first but I'd rather be sure its alright. Didn't want to waste new-thread-space so I'll derail its older thread

Were you playing the music fairly loud? You could have just sent them too much power and been burning off some excess glue, or the VC could be burning up...

I've noticed L7's sometimes smell for a WHILE when they're new.

And also, if you have it in a really big box, sometimes the box itself will take a long time of usage before it fully airs out and stops smelling.

The box is a different smell, tho. Next time it happens, feel the cone and see if the speaker's hot.
