Subs for IB setup?

You should try an Aura. I want to see a review of one of those in IB //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

High Qts and IB are more of a myth than reality. High Qts would be more appropriate in an open baffle design rather than IB. Pick a sub that you know has good control over its cone since there is no box loading to rely on.

Best of luck!

Mark

image dynamics IDQ, IDmax, and ID all are sutible for IB.

even elemental designs 0v2's and kv2's are - because they were designed by ID

arc audio flatlines should work well

sound splinter RLP's are supposedly suitible for IB

theres a bunch of subs out there. i cant name em off the top of my brain tho //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

look for a Qts around .35-.5 and an Fs between 35-50Hz for nice sound quality. I also prefer drivers with more mechanical than electrical excursion, as it is easy to drive IB subwoofers. Here is a good link for general information:

Keep in mind these are mostly home projects, so we generally shoot for an even lower Fs. as we do not have as much transfer function as a vehicle. That being said, I am using Phoenix Gold Octane R's in my home theater, driven by a 350 wpc Nady amplifier, and it can get very loud at very low frequencies. You will need more subs to reach the same level in an IB configuration, but you can split the power between them. For example, instead of two tens in a box with 400 per driver, use four in the rear deck with 200 per driver. My show car uses four tens with only 50 watts per driver, and it sounds great.

Quote from Warbleed:

"There is no shortage of woofers which can perform extremely well in IB applications. Generally I'd say you want either a high Q and a high Fs, or a low Q and a low Fs. Those two combinations tend to lend the most balanced response."

Okay, so im going to attempt an IB setup as my next big project. Ive been told to look for subs with a high qts. This seems easy, except I dont know how high of a qts rating would be "high" enough for IB. Im looking for 2 12's, 15's, or a single 18. Any help would be great.
What is your budget ?

Any sub can be ran IB.....you just have to find a sub that will result in the type of "sound" you are looking for when ran IB.

As was mentioned, you don't need to look for a high Q driver unless you want a high Q alignment.

Going the low Q/low Fs route will give you good bottom end but lack in the upper bass/lower midbass frequencies.

But yeah...there's a large multitude of drivers at every price point that will perform well IB. Just depends on what you want to spend.

Also; For IB you NEED to have high displacement to get good output levels. So either get large diameter drivers or drivers with high excursion....or drivers that have both.

So could I get away with $500 for two 15's with decent excursion for IB?

Yes.

A buddy of mine uses the Dayton Reference HF 10s in IB, while I've never gotten to hear them, apparently they perform very well.

More recently, Dayton has started making them in the 15" version, which you can find here for 160 a piece and PE is offering free shipping on orders over 99, it's a very hard deal to beat.
