Subs cutting out

Well today at work my subs would cut out when the deep notes played and sometimes would play the end of the beat and continue with the song until another deep note tried to play. I was looking at the amp when this was happening and it was acting normal...not going into protect mode or thermal mode....only putting out half the amps power right now. But it has a digital readout built in and the amp was at 104 degrees Fahrenheit. I dont know if thats real hot or normal for a amp but would like to know the answer to that. Other than that no smells coming from the subs or amp. Although it started to change towards the end of the night only cutting out on rough bumps that I would hit and then started playing fine and no cut outs the whole ride back home. What could be the problem????? Please answer this thread lol

it means they are being choked. they either have bad tinsel leads, or your connection to the box is bad on the inside to sub. do u have your subs soldered or are they universal?

I believe its universal....they are 2 12 in Type-Rs in a sealed box.

Well I didnt take the subs out the box yet to check on the ohm they are wired at even though i remember looking at a 4ohm wiring. I changed the speaker wire coming from the amp to the speakers with a thicker wire and changed the cut on wire for the amp as well. Also looked at the cup terminals on the box and everything looks tight...checked the amps ground and its tight to. Anymore suggestions on what to look for or do??? I cut the car on for about 10 mins and played it at high levels and it didnt cut off...Although the amp was cold and so was the rest of the car...

Ill probably check the subs out more closer tomorrow...since i have no work...

dude if it keeps cutting out SHUT the radio off right away dont keep playing them unless you want more damage.

check ur wires.

104 is a warm amp no where near hot. most thermal protection kicks in around 160F...

When they started cutting out I would turn the down the volume to the point where you could barely hear bass and the subs wouldnt cut out no more....I didnt continue playing them loud....What could have gotten damaged from that though??? I didnt smell nothing coming from the subs or amp....I replaced the speaker wire and the cut on wire so Im going to test the subs out today when Im going to work.

I had the same problem. check your gain an see if that helps, i alsoo changed the rca's it seemed fix the problem. i could be wrong though

See thats the thing...the amp isnt shutting off because I still see the lights on and the display is still on. The display also has a volt reader and I dont know how accurate it is but if Im playing the amp hard it will show like a 12.8v rating when it just hits and go back up to 13-14 soon after...I dont know if thats good or not. The amp is a GS Designs GS4000...its like impossible to find any info on it though...ive tried lol. I just know its rated to do 200 x 2 at 4 ohms and 600 x 2 at 1....The subs are dual 4s....

Well I just think I found my problem....my stupid *** friend didnt know what the hell he bought and he has one 2 ohm subwoofer and another 4 ohm subwoofer in one box....The 2 ohm is wired up as a 1 ohm load....and the 4 ohm sub is wired as a 2 ohm load...both are wired in parallel so what is this causing the amp to play as???? I shouted at him for selling me the subs like this and he said he was going to talk to his guy to see if i can get a replacement. But is there anyone on here that would trade a 12 in type r 2 ohm and give me the 4 ohm????

Hm....would having two different voice coil subs in the same box playing off the same amp cause both subs to stop playing all together though??? Ive been reading about what happens when you mix the different voice coils and see that it can cause cancellation and different power outputs on each sub but what does that have to do with actually damaging the subs??? With the way that it was configured it wouldnt damage the amp either right since the final ohm load isnt below 1 ohm. Really need some help with this guys.

a little update...i took the 4 ohm sub out and just hooked up the 2 ohm to a bridged channel and it still happens..the sub is still cutting out for like one to five seconds and then coming back on...doesnt even matter if the note is hard one...just cuts out....Could it be that this amp is going out????

try taking the 2ohm sub and wireing in series so the amp sees 4ohms bridged. it could be the protection kicking in...

gonna try that when I get out of class...right now its wired at 1 ohm...dun kno why i did that....question...would a bad ground cause these problems but not cause big voltage drops??? I have a 4 ga input but a 8 ga ground wire coming out the amp but the gains are set like half way through and I know the subs werent getting more than 250 watts a peice...my vibe amp was giving my JLs 250 a peice with no problems....although i have been seeing light dimming now which i didnt see with the vibe amp.

all the wiring is the same from the vibe amp thats in the GS designs amp...
