subs cutting out....

when I turn my music up, one of my subs will cut out, but at lower volumes it will play. I also listened to the one cutting out, and it would make a hard hitting noise when it would hit the lows......any ideas? It was working fine yesterday, neither of them ever smelled, but could it have been clipping? Or maybe its a loose speaker wire connection?

Sounds like voltage loss to me. After you hit a certain voltage threshold, like 10 volts, your amps go into protect mode and shut off. IOW, you've drawn too much current from your battery, and now your alternator is struggling to charge the battery and power your amps.

Check out the electrical help forum, and read the stickies (Mainly the big 3 thread). Also the gain setting tutorial. They can help.

well, my amp hasnt gone into protect. One sub cuts out at high volume levels, but one still plays......maybe a loose terminal or something?

ok, so today, I checked each sub, and neither is blown, they are both having the same popping noise made when played on. I checked the tinsels, fine. So, I think my amp is clipping really bad, even at low volumes. And the gains were only at 25%. Would it be a bad ground? cause now both will sometimes cut out even at low volumes...........

ive had the exact same problem, it was something with one of the coils being messed up or something, take it to a local place, they fixed it for me for like 20$

i cant remember exactly wat it was, snoopdann said it was "sick"

This is kinda similar to my problem, My sub at certain volumes cut out and then my amp goes into protect and cuts off because it blows my in-line fuse. Could this be because of a bad ground? or wiring

but why would it be happening to both subs? I think it has something to do with the amp.....

yea, idk why it would be happening to both of my subs...they are in perfect working order....and my amp is fine. But for some reason it is clipping the sh*t out of them, mostly on low notes. And its not the gains. Its been fine for like 3 weeks, why this all of a sudden?
